Sissiboo Riverbank Studio is perched on the riverbank overlooking the Sissiboo River in Weymouth, NS. Turned pieces are made predominantly from native Nova Scotia tree species harvested locally with the occasional exotic wood element added for contrast. The items are made on a lathe but the process most often starts with a chainsaw and ends with a buffed and polished finish.
Andy Elliot is a former high school science teacher and graduate of Acadia University with a degree in Biology. Having spent considerable time in the woods, he has developed an understanding and appreciation for nature and the treasures that lie beneath the bark of a tree. His love of woodworking started during childhood in his grandfather’s shop where the studio now stands in Weymouth. From the humble bird houses of yesterday to the turnings of today, Andy continues to make shavings at the edge of the Sissiboo River.
